Laurence S. Aylesworth, Ph.D.Dr. Laurence S. Aylesworth received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Colorado-Boulder, after completing his undergraduate degree in psychology at NYU. He completed his clinical internship at University of Washington Hospital which included a yearlong neuropsychological rotation, specializing in the Halstead-Reitan assessment procedure and application of cognitive-behavioral/social learning approaches in community settings. He has been in practice more than 30 years as a licensed psychologist specializing in trauma rehabilitation.
Dr. Aylesworth is the founding director of the Asian Pacific Development Center in Denver, Colorado, which he started in 1980 to provide culturally and linguistically responsive assistance to support immigrant and refugee communities. He worked for five years on site with military dependents and their active-duty spouses at the Fort Carson Army Base in Colorado Springs. He served for several years as an adjunct professor in the department of psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and for eight years as “permanent consultant” to the Craig Rehabilitation Hospital serving mostly young men with spinal cord and/or brain injuries. Outside of the clinic, his interests include sailing, skiing, and his lifelong dedication to martial arts, as both student and teacher with advanced degrees in both Kodokan Judo and Hakko Jujitsu. As well, he has been dedicated to helping communities in need, serving as one of the founding directors of the Mekong Foundation in Vietnam, which supports orphaned children. |
